OVERVIEW

Organization Description
The Secular Xenophyte Synthesis (henceforth, the SXS) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Zurich, Switzerland. The SXS operates internationally, and serves as the parent organization for Synthesis Parties throughout the world.

Objectives
The objectives of the SXS are to bring about large scale social, economic and political reforms in both developing and developed nations, mainly by effecting changes in normative belief systems which may tend to inhibit social, economic and political development.

Uniqueness of the SXS Approach
The SXS employs a unique approach to bring about social, economic and political reforms in both developed and developing nations. This approach is unique both because of its normative basis (the Xenophyte Philosophy) and because of its scope and comprehensiveness. Specifically, this approach depends on bringing a massive amount of information to bear on social, economic and political problems. Because this knowledge is mainly derived from the social and behavioral science knowledge base of Western countries, and of the U.S. in particular, it is largely inaccessible to most people in the developing nations. Via its philosophy, the SXS condenses, simplifies and makes this information more accessible to people in a form that has practical applications in their own lives.

Website Traffic
Although the organization’s primary website at www.sxs.org routinely receives hits from around the globe, from its inception, an overwhelming majority of its hits have come from the Arab world. And, there are some good reasons to believe that the SXS may have played at least some small constructive role in the pro-democracy movements that have recently spread across the Arab world.

Funding
Funding for the SXS comes mainly from grants, donations, membership dues, advertising and the sale of publications.

Social and Economic Development Initiatives
The SXS is involved in a number of social and economic initiatives in the U.S. and around the world. Principally, and most directly related to the organization’s philosophy and principles is providing all interested parties with easy access to the most important or “core” elements of the social and behavioral sciences. In addition, via its extensive literature and reference sections, the SXS makes an ideologically clean introduction to the social and behavioral science knowledge base freely available to the public.

By means of its educational sub-organizations (such as GUPTA and the ACC), the SXS directs people to the knowledge that they need to help build optimally rational and functional political organizations in their home countries.

Secondarily, the SXS is involved in projects with more tangible, visible and immediate benefits, such as the trans-national naval architecture and boat building venture (XENOCRAFT). Principally, this initiative involves the design and construction of small, very fuel efficient multihull powerboats. In addition to having applications in recreation and eco-tourism, these boats readily lend themselves to the commercial fishing industry. Considering their relatively low cost and ease of construction, these boats could prove valuable in the economic development of small fishing communities in developing nations.

Performance Assessment
Because advertising is one of the main sources of revenue for the SXS, steadily increasing website traffic is critical to the organization’s success. Progressively more hits means progressively more advertising dollars.

Over the last three years, annual hits for the main and satellite websites of the SXS have gone from just over 100k in 09 to over 188k in 2010, and they are now on track to break the 300k mark by 2012.

In the future, the success of the SXS cannot be measured exclusively by how much advertising revenue it generates. Rather, the ultimate measure of success will be the founding of satellite organizations and local membership bases throughout the world. In the meantime, advertising dollars will be critical to sustain the organization.
